Painting three ways - projects from Woman's Day magazine
Get the kids’ creativity flowing these holidays with some fun ideas from Emily Somerville-Ryan
What you’ll need:
Instructions:
Cut out the bottom corner cups from four, half-dozen egg cartons, so that you have at least 5 cups per fish and mermaid tail. In the lid of the egg cartons, draw and cut out three fish tails and a mermaid body. Paint two coats of paint onto each cup in slightly varying colours. For the green fish I have used Resene Fringy Flower, Resene Vista Blue, Resene Keppel, Resene Home Run and Resene Niagara. For the blue fish I have used, Resene Morning Glory, Resene Retreat, Resene Calypso, Resene Blumine and Resene Billabong. For the mermaid I have used Resene Echo Blue, Resene Relax, Resene Hendrix, Resene Enigma, Resene Biscay for her tail. Resene Gold Dust for her star, Resene Pot Pourri for her skin and Resene Vibe for her hair. Once completely dry, pierce a hole through the top cup of each sea creature and knot a length of gold ribbon through it. Pierce a hole through the side of the two fish heads and push in a toy eye, then glue, or you could paint the eyes on. Glue the mermaid body to the top mermaid cup. Glue all the cup pieces, including the mermaid body one by one together at the back with a glue gun. Finally glue on the tails at the bottom and hang from a window or wall.
What you'll need:
Instructions:
Sand back stools with sandpaper. Mask the top of the legs and around each leg 9cm from the bottom. Paint the feet and seat with two coats of Resene paint. I have used Resene Morning Glory and Resene Echo Blue. Draw a face on each stool and paint on the face using Resene Biscay, Resene Gold Dust and Resene Vibe. Finally, coat both stools with two coats of Resene Aquaclear waterborne urethane varnish.
What you'll need:
Instructions:
Line up 5 to 7 large iceblock sticks vertically together in a row and hot glue gun 2 to 3 more large iceblock sticks at different intervals horizontally across them, holding them all together to create a door. With a scalpel and a ruler, trim off any edges along the side of your door that you do not want. Paint each door with two coats of paint in your favourite Resene colours. I've used Resene Morning Glory, Resene Echo Blue, Resene Fringy Flower and Resene Bali Hai. Paint two small beads with Resene Gold Dust and allow to dry. Once dry, decorate each door with cute fairy touches such as hinges, bells, handles, knockers and fake flowers, fixing them in place with a glue gun and gold ribbons. Finally, paint on any extra details you’d like to add.
