Mark Rayner shows how to put together a stunning planter for a seasonal show of pansies.
You will need:
22mm treated plywood cut to the following dimensions:
four 400mm x 400mm for sides, one 400mm x 366mm for base 50mm x 50mm treated timber cut to four 80mm lengths for the feet, if the dimensions of your plastic plant pot differ from those above, adjust the cut measurements of the plywood accordingly, exterior PVA glue, 40mm galvanised jolt head nails, pencil, hammer, paint brushes including artists’ brushes, drill and drill bit, exterior filler, sandpaper and a large square plastic plant pot measuring approximately 350mm x 350mm x 350mm.
Resene Concrete Clear, Resene Quick Dry acrylic primer undercoat and Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Portage. Resene testpots in the following colours: Resene Paua, Resene Violent Violet, Resene Blue Gem, Resene House White, Resene Turbo, Resene Woodstock and Resene Black.
Top tip: When painting the pansy design use an actual pansy flower for reference.
To get the look: Mark planted up the planter with blue and purple pansies and painted the background wall with Resene Paua.
Note: If the dimensions of your plastic plant pot differ from those above, adjust the cut measurements of the plywood accordingly.
